Stories seek to inspire, challenge and connect us. They make us understand ourselves, our community and the world around us. But what excites me are the stories that make us deeply 'feel' something, and helps to be more alive and happier.
Born and raised in Tasmania, I have been fortunate to have studied and worked in the film and television industry in both Sydney, Mebourne and at home in Tasmania on shows as the FOXTEL/BBC series The Kettering Incident and ABC Series Rosehaven (Season One).
Whether it be a Film, Commercial or a corperate video project, I challenge myself to be more creative and push the boundaries of my storytelling by seeking creative inspiration, expanding my imagination and striving towards greater acheivements.

The Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival has had the privilege of knowing Daniel James and his work since
2011. Since then he has attended our festival in most years and has a keen desire to develop his skills and to make a career for himself as a film director. We applaud that sentiment and believe he will do well.
2020 was the 10th anniversary festival for us. As a result, we wanted a special 30 second commercial to
commemorate our anniversary and specifically to reference the hero advertisement that was made for our 2011 festival. We chose Daniel because of his long association with the festival and because of his proven creativity.
Daniel wrote the script concept and the detailed script, chose the talent, commissioned all the crew and directed
the shoot in a one-day period, that ran well and provided a quantity of images from which to craft the
advertisement that we wanted. The project went through several edits in order to exactly meet our requirements,
which it did admirably.
Daniel is an enthusiastic professional who is always willing to go above and beyond with filming and editing, no matter what the challenges. He is unfailingly client-focused and a pleasure to deal with. He completed our project on budget and on time. I recommend Daniel and his work to any future client and wish him well.
